“I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford in 1973 and have spent my career advancing research and development in computing. At SRI International, I was lead programmer for the oN-Line System (NLS) and created the software demonstrated in Doug Engelbart’s 1968 “Mother of All Demos.” At Xerox PARC, I contributed to the foundations of personal computing, including work on icons, windows, and interdisciplinary office research. Later, at Sun Microsystems, I managed research groups of up to 400 people, advancing graphics, networking, and software systems, and directed Ivan Sutherland’s lab until my retirement.”
